August 11, 2015
Did you know that of the 40 million Americans age 65 and older, 81% agree that the most important key to a happy retirement is good health? If you’re over 65, you should be getting around two hours and thirty minutes of exercise a week, but it can be hard to find the motivation when you’re trying to enjoy your retirement. Here are some of the activities that you can engage in to have fun during your retirement, all while getting the exercise you need to be healthy and happy.
Hiking – If you just began your retirement, and you love the outdoors, hiking is a great way for you to stay active while you start your new chapter. Looking into lake homes can increase your range of activities, since lake homes will put you nearby to major bodies of water and wooded areas where you can hike, fish, or whatever else you like to do in the great wild beyond.
Swimming – Even if the lake isn’t your thing, you can still enhance your retirement living with some exercise swimming. Finding a nearby pool that offers swim aerobics classes, or just the room to swim laps, can be a refreshing way to give your body the physical activity it needs, all while soaking up some rays and splashing about. (Not to mention the pool is a great place to scope out retired singles.)
Golfing – Great news for all you golf fans, golf isn’t just great for a relaxed lifestyle. It can also provide you with the exercise you need to stay healthy. Next time you go golfing, opt to skip the cart, and get a nice long walk in between swings. Then you’ll also have an excuse to be at the course all day.
Whatever you decide you want to do to keep healthy, just remember to enjoy your retirement. You earned this time, so you get to pick how you want to spend it.
